Continuation of Jed Moffitt's pre-launch updates for staff at KCLS.
Attached is the fifth update in this series...
Dear KCLS Staff:
I confess to the onset of a growing case of nerves. But the good thing is that it feels a lot like the nerves that hit before a piano performance and not like the nerves you get before you bomb a math test that you know you didn’t prepare for. That’s a kind of anxiety that I can live with, and in some cases actually enjoy. Sure, changing systems is extremely stressful for us all, but we’ve worked hard, prepared well, and we’ve got the opportunity to begin building something great here for the future of KCLS and for our patrons. In the midst of a thousand last-minute details, I’m trying to hold onto that vision and hope and sense of possibility.
Our main vendor/development partner (Equinox Software) was here for a final huddle-up and strategy session with the KCLS Evergreen team last week. I cannot be more proud of or happy with every member of the KCLS Evergreen team. Virtual Library Services with the online Catalog, CMS with the Cataloging/Serials/Acquisitions software, and all of you in the libraries with the Circulation software, In a nutshell, everyone has been very prepared--practicing and gaining a high degree of fluency and dexterity with the Evergreen software.
Our target for going live with Evergreen is more specific this week. We will bring Millennium down for (knock on wood) the last time after the last KCLS library closes on Monday September 20th. We are in the midst of tests that will give us a better idea of our likely downtime. I will suggest that we may be back up and online with Evergreen no earlier than Wednesday morning September 22nd. I hope to have a more firm target for you next week.

Sincerely,
Jed
