KCLS Evergreen Pre-Launch Update #2 - Why is KCLS moving to Evergreen?

Continuation of Jed Moffitt's Pre-Launch Updates for Staff at KCLS.

Attached is the second update in this series...

Dear KCLS Staff:

I just ran back to check the countdown clock and here’s where we’re at: 53:18:17:XX

For those of you who missed the last update, that reads roughly 53 days and 18 hours until we hit our go-live target for the Evergreen system.  Indeed, the clock has a focusing effect, certainly for me, and for the rest of the staff who are working hard to bring you a good system.

We have a week of Circulation training in our rearview mirror at this point.  Our thanks go out to Darlene Pearsall for choreographing this complex training event.  Thanks to all the staff trainers from each of the library clusters who have taken on the task of learning Evergreen and teaching us all.  Thanks to our technical staff who are making the training environments work, often improvising solutions as they go.  Training and ongoing software development will continue hand-in hand in the coming weeks.

Last week’s update was a quick review of what Evergreen is.  This week the update talks about why we are moving to Evergreen.

Thank you for your support, and for accepting the challenge of learning this new system.

Jed Moffitt

Director of Information Technology Services

King County Library System
