Starting July 23, 2010, Jed Moffitt (IT Services Director at KCLS) began sending out staff emails to keep people informed of progress being made in the move toward Evergreen.
Attached is the first update in this series...
Dear KCLS Staff:
In our Service Center ITS Operations room, Kathy Agnew's team has installed an Evergreen Countdown clock, with big red numbers, that relentlessly counts down the days, hours, minutes, and yes--seconds, until we go live with the Evergreen system.
I stopped back there yesterday to visit with our engineers as they installed the operating system on the new Evergreen hardware (all 29 servers of it).
The Countdown clock read: 64:14:37:XX
The "xx" is for the seconds column which was, of course, spinning madly like cherries on a slot machine.
And I thought--okay--two months out--staff training on Circulation fires up next week—it’s time to start writing to the staff in earnest. This first update is a brief review of what Evergreen is. Future updates will focus on why we’re moving to Evergreen, where you can find resources to learn about Evergreen in advance, how the change of systems will likely affect you in the libraries, and the plans we have to support you when the big day comes in 64, 63, 62, 61....days
All the best,
Jed Moffitt
Director of ITS
King County Library System
